Tax Reductions Roadblocked by the Lt. Governor
With only one day left of the Georgia General Assembly, it seems that little is going to be accomplished. The Lt. Governor has rejected every tax reduction effort of the House – and has gone so far as to propose additional vehicle taxes.
This is puzzling to most of us as the Georgia Constitution is quite clear that ALL revenue and tax bills must originate in the House. This is not a suggestion, but a mandate and we are doing our best to accommodate the will of the people in reforming the tax code.
While the media loves to make a big deal out of this, it is not too much different than in years past. What is different is that none of the negotiations are secret back room dealings. With the open door policy of the House, all meetings are broadcast live on the internet and archived for viewing at a later date.
Open and transparent government, no more hidden meetings, no more secret deals. I believe that is a major step forward in the way this state is managed, don’t you?
