Your Senate-Sponsored Birthday Tax Increase
Every year that I am in the General Assembly, it seems like more and more strange things happen. The House recently passed a Resolution that would remove the dreaded vehicle “Birthday Tax” burden from all Georgians. That tax hits every one of us from hundreds to thousands of dollars every year. The House then recommended adding back a $10.00 fee to help out our trauma care network.
Yesterday, the Senate decided, in their infinite wisdom, that you did not need that tax removed, in fact they voted to add an additional $10.00 fee on top of the Birthday Tax to fund trauma care.
This is no April Fools joke, even though it may sound like it. The Senate actually decided that you did not have enough taxes to pay, so they taxed you a little more. Now, I must tell you that there were a few Senators in leadership that did not go along with the tax increase, but they were not able to defeat it.
If you want an additional tax increase, then do nothing. But, if you are tired of more and more taxes being piled on you, then call, fax or e-mail your Senators and let them know. You can find their information at www.legis.state.ga.us or call my office at 404-656-0129 and we will help find them for you.
