Quality Education in Cherokee Schools

This week I had the opportunity to spend much of the morning at one of the schools in my district, participating in their Career Day.

Yes, to some, being a Legislator is indeed a career!

Now, I must tell you, trying to make this job look exciting can be a challenging when you consider the competition I had. A group to the right of me had a live snake, rabbit and mouse and on the other side was a chef, airline pilot and bomb sniffing robot. Across the room was a full size human skeleton and a real black bear – stuffed of course.

Nonetheless, I was impressed with the thoughtful questions of these students. They were well informed about state government and we were able to have some very interesting conversations. Several of them were actually considering careers as attorneys or in public service. I find that to be very mature as I was talking to 5th and 6th graders.

If you have not had the opportunity to participate in the activities of our schools or observe these dedicated teachers, then I would recommend that you should. Every year I visit several schools throughout my district and always leave impressed with the quality of education we are providing and the thirst for knowledge most of our students possess.

Please let me know of your positive experiences with our schools  by writing me at calvin.hill@house.ga.gov. As always, I look forward to hearing from you.
