GRANDMA’S RULE
That’s what we call it around our house, GRANDMA’S RULE!
It means no whining, no complaining and no pouting. Life is too short and things are not always going to go your way - so suck it up and enjoy what you do have.
I could not believe that my lovely wife started this “rule” with our grandkids when they were only a couple of years old, but it works. Whenever they start to whine about something, she just asks them what “GRANDMA’S RULE” is and they magically regain their composure and go on with whatever they were doing. It even works over the telephone when they are at home with their parents. Mom just tells them that Grandma is on the phone and wants to know if they remember her rule. Magic!
Now, if we could all apply that rule to our own lives, things just might improve. Instead of whining and complaining about things, we could accept what is and work to change what we do not like about it. That is how I got into this job; I did not like what was going on and started complaining about it. I was told if I don’t like it, then do something about it. So here I am.
I will continue to point out our weaknesses, silliness, our stupidity and our successes. I hope that they do not come across as whining, or my wife will remind me of “GRANDMA’S RULES’! |
