Birthday Tax?
Get the Facts at Thursday's Town Hall Meeting!

Yesterday your Georgia General Assembly passed a resolution which will allow you to vote on a couple of key issues. One will be if you want to phase out the annual car tag tax or “birthday Tax” as it is so affectionately known. The other would be a slow down on the increase of your property tax.

Both of these important tax measures will be full explained at the Legislative Town Hall Meeting in Cherokee County tomorrow evening, Thursday, March 13th, at 7:00 pm. That meeting will be located at the Cherokee County South Annex building in Woodstock.

Other issues that made it through crossover day cracked down on  employees that abused the state’s credit cards, allowed college and university scholarships of killed or wounded vets, extended the lemon law for new cars and even one that allowed non-profit groups to give private school scholarships to help lower income school-children get out of poorly performing public schools.

The most important work still to be done this year is the budget. With reduced revenue projections, there will still be growth, just not a much a first anticipated. This means that some of the hoped for increases in spending will not be there and some of the pet projects of the Governor and Legislators alike might get the axe – and that is not always a bad thing.
